A helicopter service operates betweenGuwahati, Shillong (30 min) and Tura (60 min), which is convenient and economical. Some helicopters land at upper Shillong and others at Umroi Helipad in the downtown.

By Road

Road Network in the state is quite efficient and covers the state conveniently. National Highway 40 is an all-weather road running through the state. The road connects Shillong with Guwahati, which in turn is connected to other major cities in rest of the country.

By Rail

Meghalaya does not have any train service. The nearest and railway station is inGuwahati. The Meghalaya has very convenient road connection with Guwahati throughout the year.

Mawsmai
The main attraction of Mawsmai is the Mawsmai Cave. The other name for this attraction of Mawsmai at Meghalaya is Krem Phyllut. It is located close to the Nohsngithiang Falls. The entry point of Mawsmai Cave is located in the village of Mawsmai, which is situated near Cherrapunjee. The entry of Mawsmai Cave is located very close to the Mawsmai village.The vertical entry is very narrow.

One can visit this cave in Mawsmai of Meghalaya with an affordable entrance fee. The cave remains open for public viewing from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

The interior of the cave at Mawsmai in Meghalaya consists of big halls. Each of these halls looks like an amphitheater. The cave is embedded in darkness. A torchlight or any other kind of light works wonders on the hidden beauties of this place: the interiors of the cave become illuminated and the stalagmites, stalactites and walls appear to reflect innumerable crystal colors.

The only distinguishing point in all these halls is their varying shapes and sizes. Stalactite and stalagmite myriads lay scattered in the cave. The interior of the cave is quite spacious, which allows one to conveniently move about within the cave.  

Jaintia Hills
Jaintia Hills at Meghalaya is the home of the Jaintia tribes. The district of Jaintia Hills was formed in the year 1972. Jaintia Hills is one of the most exuberant and beautiful locations in Meghalaya. The place which is surrounded by nature from every side is a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

  • Thadlaskein Lake : It is situated 8 kilometers away from Jowai and is believed to have been dug up with the tip of the bow by the followers of one of the very famous leaders of Jaintia Hills, Sajar Nangli. The lake falls in between the route of Shillong from Jowai.

  • Syndai : Situated in the Jowai-Dawki road, it is an important village which comprises a large number of caves and caverns scattered all across the village. These caves and caverns all together are known as Syndai caves.
  • Nartiang : The place is a must visit for it offers a wonderful view of standing rocks. One of the rocks is believed to be the walking stick of Jaintia legend Mar Phalyngki. Some of the clusters of rocks are tallest in the world. The place is just 24 kilometers away from Jowai.

The Charminar is the one of the biggest tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh. The legend says Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of the city built this magnificent square shaped edifice to ward of ward off the break out of an epidemic at the center of the original city in his time. Four 48.7 metre high minarets built of Granite flanking four grand arches explains the name Char (four) minar. A lotus leaf structure, which was a special recurrent motif in Qutub Shahi buildings, supports the base of each minar.The arches support two floors and gallery of archways. The first floor housed a madarasa (college) during the Qutub Shahi period. The second floor houses a mosque on the western side.

 It requires a special permission from the Archaeological Survey of India to go to the top of the minarets, which offers a spectacular view of the city. The monument is open all the days. 


Golconda Fort

It is one of the famous forts of India and derives its name from the Telugu words "Golla Konda" meaning "Shepherd's Hill". Golconda was originally a mud fort and the origin dates back to the Kakatiya period. Later in course of history it passed to the Qutb Shahis (1518 to 1687 A.D).

The fort is famous for its acoustics, palaces, factories, ingenious water supply system and the famous Fateh Rahben gun, one of the cannons used in the last siege of Golconda by Aurangzeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell. An evening light and sound show brings alive the history of the Golconda Fort.

The Statue of Lord Buddha, Hyderabad

In the placid waters of the hussain Sagar Lake, stands the tallest monolithic statue of Lord Buddha (72 feet tall and weighing 450 tons). 200 sculptors took 2 years to chisel it out of a white granite rock. The statue was erected on 12th April 1992 on a pedestal. There is beautifully landscaped Lumbini Park attached to it. A visit to Buddha statue by boat from the park is a memorable experience.

National Highway 1-A, National Highway-20, National Highway 21, National Highway 21-A, National Highway-22, National Highway-70, National Highway -72, National Highway73-A and National Highway 88 connect to the state of Himachal Pradesh.

By Air

The Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to the state, and it is well connected to Delhi with regular flights. The state can also be reached via the domestic airport at Pantnagar in the Kumaon region.

By Rail

The state only has 345 km of railway tracks. Kathgodam railway station is situated 35 km from Nainital, which is almost the last stop of the North East railways. It connects Nainital with Dehradun, Delhi and Howrah. The state also has railways stations at Pantnagar, Lalkuan and Haldwani. Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations are also among the most well-connected to other cities of the country. Rishikesh, Ramnagar and Kotdwar are also railheads.

The state has a well-connected road network of 28,508 kms, which includes 1,328 km of national highways and 1,543 km of state highways.
